To qualify for the CPDHTS Exam and earn your certification, it is recommended you meet one of the following criteria:

Option 1:

• Hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, and

• Have five years of experience in information and management systems*,including three years in a healthcare setting.

Option 2:

• Hold a post graduate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, and

• Have three years of experience in information and management systems*,including two years in a healthcare setting.

Option 3:

• Have at least 10 years of experience in information and management systems*, including eight years in a healthcare setting.

Additional Information

• Information and management systems experience includes roles in:

  • Systems analysis, design, selection, implementation, support and maintenance

  • Testing and evaluation

  • Privacy and security

  • Information systems or clinical informatics

  • Management engineering

• Healthcare settings include organisations such as:

  • Hospitals

  • Healthcare consulting firms

  • Vendors

  • Government agencies (federal, state, or local)

  • Academic institutions

  • Payers or public health organisations

Self-Assessment Exam:

The CPDHTS Self-Assessment Exam is a 50-question online practice test that mirrors the certification exam's structure and content areas. This isn’t included in the certification cost and can be purchased directly from HIMSS.

• Key Features:

  • Aligns with the CPDHTS certification exam in content and format (though shorter in length and not predictive of exam performance).

  • Provides detailed feedback on incorrect responses for targeted study.

Format: A two-hour exam with 100 multiple-choice questions

• Location: Administered remotely via a secure, proctored internet-based platform.

• Time: You have up to 90 days following the course to book your exam.

Steps to take the exam:
